Service Description

Academic Writing Foundations is a four-week virtual course that helps Grade 11, 12, and first-year university students build the core writing skills needed for first-year university. Many students enter postsecondary studies unsure of how academic writing differs from high school; this course provides a clear and supportive introduction to university-level clarity, argumentation, structure, and evidence-based writing. Students may choose between two enrollment options: Live Cohort: A guided, interactive version offered in April, May, August, September, and October. Live cohort groups have the option to choose between Wednesday evening sessions, or Saturday afternoon sessions. Enrollment is capped at 15 students to ensure personalized feedback and meaningful participation. Asynchronous Cohort: A flexible, self-paced version that includes all lessons and workbook activities without scheduled live classes. Enrollment is capped at 20 students per month in fall/winter and 40 students per month in spring/summer to maintain high-quality support. In the live version, students attend four weekly sessions that break down the foundations of university-level writing. Through guided exercises and instructor support, they learn to move beyond summary, develop clear thesis statements, structure effective paragraphs, use evidence purposefully, improve sentence clarity, and understand basic citation and academic integrity. The asynchronous version provides the same core content through recorded lessons and a downloadable workbook. Students may book optional one-on-one sessions for individualized feedback. Both formats include guidance on managing writing anxiety, pacing assignments, building productive study habits, and the specifics of post-secondary writing mechanics, expectations, citation skill development, and more. By the end of the course, students will have a clearer understanding of university writing expectations, stronger clarity and confidence in their written work, foundational tools for drafting and revision, and a personal writing improvement plan to guide them into Grade 12 and beyond. Please inquire directly for pricing details on asynchronous registration & early bird pricing.
